Now

Dan graduated from Bexley High School in 1965. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Miami University in 1970 and a Masters Degree from California Lutheran College, Thousand Oaks CA in 1980.  

From 1970 - 1972, he served in the United States Air Force as a Special Agent in the Office of Special Investigations. From 1973 through 1975, he was employed as a Staff Accountant at Arthur Andersen and Company in Columbus, Ohio. He joined the FBI as a Special Agent in 1975 and served in the Los Angeles and Oklahoma City offices. As Media Coordinator with the Oklahoma City office, he had the responsibility for responding to local, national and international media as FBI spokesman in connection with the investigation of the April 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.  He appeared on “60 Minutes II” to discuss the OKBOMB investigation.  He has appeared on “America’s Most Wanted,” “Current Affair” and “Unsolved Mysteries” in connection with Oklahoma FBI fugitive cases and made numerous appearances on Oklahoma television and radio stations in connection with investigative activities of the FBI. 

In June 1998 Dan was nominated for the FBI’s Thomas E. DuHadway Humanitarian Award in connection with efforts to assist employees and family members after the Murrah Federal Building bombing. 

He has been involved in writing and video presentations regarding infant abductions from hospitals, workplace violence and violent crime. 

Dan retired in January 2000, after 25 years of service. In June 2000, he was sworn in as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused and neglected children in Oklahoma County. From 1995 to the present, he has also served as a mentor at an Oklahoma City Elementary School.  

Dan has been married to Anita M. Schwartz (Bexley class of 1967) for 32 years. He is the proud father of Adam and Christian, who have consistently exceeded all of his expectations. His mother, Mabel A. Vogel, resides in Columbus, Ohio and his brother David (Bexley class of 1967) resides in Amanda, Ohio. 

His father, David E. Vogel, died in 1999.
