Mayor
David H. Madison
David H.
Madison is a 1951 graduate of Columbus Academy. Following high
school graduation he attended Nichols Junior College for two years
and The Ohio State University for an additional two years, followed
by four years in the U.S. Navy. He held the position of Executive
Vice President of Madison’s, Incorporated for 21 years.
Prior to be elected to the office of Mayor of the City Of Bexley 28
years ago, he served for eight years on Bexley City Council.
Over the years His Honor has served as a board member of such
government-related organizations as the Franklin County Convention
Facilities Authority, Board of Control-Governor’s Mansion, Mid-Ohio
Regional Planning Commission, Ohio Municipal League, Columbus Area
Council on Alcoholism, Community Awareness of Substance Abuse, Ohio
Supreme Court Mayor’s Court Education and Procedure Standards
Advisory Committee, Franklin County Mayors Group, Public Safety
Directors of Ohio Association and the Mid-Ohio Health Planning
Federation. He has been the chairman of the Ohio State Exposition
Commission, president of Bexley City Council and treasurer of the
Mayor’s Association of Ohio.
Civic and religious organizational activities include membership in
Bexley Jaycees, Bexley Whitehall Rotary Club, Fraternal Order of
Police Association, Charity Newsies, Bexley Historical Society and
Bexley Celebrations Assn. He is a board member of the Bexley Area
Chamber of Commerce. He has served as board member of Temple Israel,
Columbus Academy, Winding Hollow Country Club and St. Anthony’s
Hospital. He is past president of the Temple Israel Brotherhood,
Columbus Academy Father’s Assn. and YMCA Men’s Club.
He has received the following special awards and recognitions: the
Distinguished Community Service Award and Bexley Citizen of the Year
from the Bexley Celebrations Assn., the Whitehall-Bexley Rotary
Achievement Award, named to the Bexley High School Hall of Fame, the
Man of the Year Award from Agudas Achim and the William H. Anderson
Excellence in Public Service Award from MORPC.
Mayor Madison has been married to Cheryl for 5-1/2 years. Between
them they have two daughters, three sons and eleven grandchildren.
In his letter of acceptance, Mayor Madison said, “I have always
enjoyed working for the schools and helping them in any way I could,
as I have always felt the schools were the most important thing for
the community. I don’t even want to think what would happen to
Bexley without these great schools.”
