Bexley Middle School students Nathaniel Pelz (left) and Evan Darwin explain their Future City project to competition judges Emily Mullins and Ken Linger Saturday at COSI Columbus. The middle-schoolers' winning "Spirare" city earned the team an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., Feb. 20-22 to compete against 30 other regional champions. Other members of the team are Graham Horn, Jesse Vogel and Brian Yost. The National Engineers Week Future City Competition is designed to provide a fun, educational engineering program for seventh- and eighth-graders, combining an engineering challenge with a "hands-on" application to present their vision of a city of the future. |
