Pam grew up in Bexley with younger sister Cynthia and parents Tom
and Phyllis Mulbarger, graduating in 1964 with the largest class to
date, thanks to the beginning of the baby boomers. Phyllis continues
to reside in Bexley.
The Ohio State University was next on Pam’s agenda. There she joined
Kappa Kappa Gamma, was elected to numerous honorary societies,
including Mortar Board, and graduated in 1967 cum laude with a
Bachelor of Science. OSU also introduced her to Tom Workman who
would become her husband.
During her years living in Bexley Pam was frequently an advocate for
the Bexley public schools . She was instrumental in founding the
Bexley Education Fund, now called the Bexley Education Foundation,
and received the Mayor’s Award as a “Friend of Education.” Her
children, Sarah and Chris, also graduated from BHS. Parental and
civic responsibilities blended themselves with her many artistic
undertakings.
After many years living in Bexley, Pam and Tom moved to New York
City where they currently live while maintaining close ties to Ohio.
Their son, Chris, also lives in New York. Daughter Sarah and her
husband, Mark Checcone, and their son, Massimo, live in St. Louis.
Not one to let grass grow under her tootsies, Pam continued her art
education at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, receiving a master’s
degree in fine arts summa cum laude in 2003. Her paintings have been
exhibited at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum in St. Joseph, Missouri and
at the Hammond Harkins Gallery in Bexley. She currently serves as a
trustee for the Columbus College of Art and Design.
