Wayne & Joann Susil Hanners – Bexley OH
Our 60th class reunion
was a wonderful experience. We’re sure all who attended have great
memories. There were over 50 people (30 classmates) for a
get-together at the Bexley Monk on Friday night. On Saturday over
70 of us (40 classmates) met at the Columbus Country Club for food
and fun and a group photo, followed by a bus tour of Bexley, passing
the childhood homes of many of the 30 of us onboard. Ed Hamblin
‘48, our Bexley historian, was our outstanding tour guide (we extend
to Ed our deepest sympathy on the death of his wife on June 1).
After the tour, about 40 of us attended a get-together at Betsy
Madison Kent’s home. We thank her for being to gracious. She
served “White Castles” and drumsticks for dessert, as well as much
more good food and drinks. All this time that our classmates
visited together and remembered our time spent in the classrooms and
halls of Bexley High School was a priceless time. Thank you each
and every one who attended – and spouses (Elaine Suid’s brother came
with her). Many traveled from afar – WA, CA, MD, WV, PA, MI, AZ and
FL, and many from OH, including Columbus and Bexley.

Cecil “Cease” Blocker– Bethlehem PA
After spending five
years in Southeast Asia for Standard Oil in the early 1960’s, we
still have the wanderlust with yearly trips outside the USA. Last
year – Sicily and Nova Scotia. I’m busy being a consultant and
member of several boards. Our crowning achievement has been our 24
grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Joyce Rinehart
Salfingere-Burkheiser – Sun City West AZ
Been retired from being a columnist for the newspaper, but seem to
keep busier than I really want. Volunteer chaplain at the hospital
now for 15 years and play bridge with same group for same number of
years. Am a great-grandmother of 3 at the moment. Try to exercise at
the gym 3x/week without dislocating any body parts. Hope to get to
reunion this summer if possible. Some of the best days of my life
were spent at Bexley where, in the 5th grade at Main-Montrose
Elementary School, I met Frank Salfingere, my first husband and
love.

Ralph Schofer –
Bethesda MD
I retired from full time work 23 years ago and subsequently failed
at retirement three times. Never again! I currently serve as
consulting traffic engineer to municipalities and as expert witness
to zoning and tort lawyers. Simone and I play tennis indoors, and
outdoors in the warmer months, of which there haven’t been any
recently. Al Gore’s global warming? I am looking forward to golf
season this spring.
Simone and I
cruised down the Dniper River last August. We traveled to Kiev and
sailed down the river to Zaporozhye, Sevastepol, Yalta and Odessa.
Then we traveled to Istanbul for a 5-day visit and returned home via
London. When we travel again, it will be to Western Europe. Enough
of the countries off the beaten track!
The Harvard
Business School Alumni Club presented me with a Certificate of
Appreciation at the Capitol Hill Club in December where the guest
speaker was Senator Collins of Maine. Simone also received a
Certificate of Appreciation for putting up with me while I was
serving the club! I am alumni secretary of my HBS program which is
starting to appear as a lifetime assignment.
We are grandparents
to 9 year old Alexandra, 8 year old Francesca and 3 year old Zachary
and have become accomplished child sitters. We also regularly attend
soccer games, swim meets and school programs.
I always enjoy
reading the Bexley High School Alumni Association newsletter and
look forward to our 60th reunion this summer.

Glorialea Howard
Sievers – North Royalton OH
Downsizing has been our challenge for this past year. Wish we
would have tackled the move sooner, but senior living is ideal now
that we have taken the big step. We may be able to find something
now by next year. We’ve connected with several old friends by email.
Our grandchildren teach me to use the computer as a challenge for
them. My email address is Glorialea@aol.com if you have the time to
say hello. I’d love to hear from you. See you at our 60th!! “Time
flies . . .”, etc.

Wayne & JoAnn Susil Hanners – Bexley OH
We both wish our classmates a healthy new
year. 2009 means a 60 year reunion for us. Guess that also means
we are all past 60 years old. Hope it also means that we are all
wiser. The reunion committee will have a meeting soon. At our last
meeting the dates were set for Friday & Saturday, June 19 & 20. We
will get a mailing out, giving details for the events planned. We
look forward to being with you and visiting and remembering our high
school days. Please inform us of any change of address, etc.

We visit the grandkids in Arlington, so should be able to be in
Bexley for the ’09 reunion. Tennessee is a great place – y’all come
by.

We had a reunion committee meeting in April,
attended by Ann Aldrich, Gary Seckel, Wayne Spangler, Betsy Kent,
John Roberts and Mignon Dannon. It was great being together,
planning our 60th class reunion. Please plan to attend on June 19 &
20, 2009. Additional information will be sent to each class member
with complete details. We look forward to renewing friendships.

Looking forward to our ‘49er reunion in ’09.
Have my work cut out for me before that though. Plan on losing 200+
pounds, have surgery on my nose to make it smaller and blow up my
lips to make ‘em bigger. I did retire as a columnist at the
newspaper and am now writing a “tell all” book about my relatives.
Other than that, “same old, same old.”

Happy New Year 49’ers! Please pay ’08 dues if
you haven’t already done so and keep us informed if you have a
change of address. Our 60th will be in 2009 – not that far away.

Rinehart Salfingere-Burkheiser – Sun City West AZ
Just a few updates: For a gal who wanted ocean view property,
Arizona doesn’t do it, not even in monsoon weather. As for me
personally, I got fired from my job, my dog ran away, my kids
disowned me and Jenny Craig strongly suggested I try Nutri-System.
However, I am extremely happy in retirement since the doctor
prescribed those new pills. OK, so I was kiddin’ – kinda. All is
really OK. I’m still breathin’ on my own and that’s worth points.
Hope to glue myself together in time for our 2009 reunion!

Wayne and I are thinking about our 60th in 2009. Next year, look for
a mailing with information. Please inform us if you have a new
address. I know this is two years away, but you might have noticed
how fast time goes at our age. I’ve said before, those four years in
high school, with all our classmates, were good times. We look
forward to being with our classmates in 2009.

Decided I’d been in the writing business too
long, so I retired from the newspaper. Thought I might fill the
void with a little skydiving. Haven’t been kicked off the staff as
a volunteer chaplain at the hospital yet, but the year is still
young. Manage to sneak in some bridge once a week and I visit with
my Stephen’s Ministry couple as often as possible. We manage to
still “eat out” 8 out of 7 days. Life’s good!

Wayne &
JoAnn Susil Hanners - Bexley OH
The Alumni Association has two events planned for Fall 2006. A
tailgate party before Bexley's football game on Sept. 15 and the
annual luncheon at the Columbus Country Club at 12:30 p.m. on Sept.
17. Sure would be great to visit with our classmates at those
events. Three years before out 60th!

Enjoy the newsletter. However, most of the
names that I recognize are . . . . . you know! Keep up the good
work, Wayne & JoAnn!

I’m still writing a column for the newspaper,
a volunteer chaplain at the hospital, a Stephen’s minister and play
bridge. We eat out a lot, as my cooking skills have yet to arrive.
We are planning a cruise around the British Isles and Ireland this
summer and visiting children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. Hope there is another reunion brewing for the
49’ers. I’m packed and ready to go!
