CLASS OF 1950

January 2009

Lawrence Pepper – Columbus OH

I am now retired and turned 77 on December 21, 2008.  2008 was my first year of retirement and it has gone by very quickly but has given me more time to visit my daughter and grandchildren in Clarksville TN.  I’m looking forward to our 60th class reunion in 2010.  It is a sad fact that many of my classmates have passed away.

September 2008

Barbara DeNucci Hendrickson – Hayward CA

I’m sorry to hear of the passing of Betty Anne Miller.  Just the other day I was looking at an old photo of my 12th birthday party and she is in the picture, along with friends Judy Glaize, Gert, Diane Neighbors, Bobbie Krakoff, Donna Bukey and others.

As we all hit the ripe age of 75-76 we are starting to lose loved ones.  Just since 2000 I’ve lost two aunts and an uncle and now my cousin, Carolyn, 2nd Vellani grandchild after me.  Now I’m the oldest person of my big Columbus family.  Whew!

I hope all of you out there are in decent, if not great, health.  And I hope we’re going to have a 60th reunion in two years.  I am too far away to help with that, but I’ve offered to be the class rep, even tho I live on the western edge of the US.  Please, local classmates!  Get together and work on a 60th reunion.  I would love to see you all again.  I’ll help with whatever I can.  Email: bchraven@pacbell.net.

Jerry Smeck – Modesto CA

A “special thanks” to Carol Middaugh for her dedication to the BHSAA. I really enjoyed Ed Hamblin’s article re: Bexley historical information. Our sailboat is gone we are RVing in our Tiffin Zephyr coach. Our twin 23 year old grandsons are back safely from Iraq (2 tours) and out of the USMC. They made this grandpa proud, as I was a Marine in the Korean War. Nov. 3, I’ll be 75 and I just paid lifetime dues. I guess that means I’ll be around for at least another 10 years.

This summer I did something I hope all of you will do.  After several years of archiving maternal family photos and historical documents, I took them all back to Columbus, where most of my family still lives.  My cousin Amy and I bought a bookcase for her living room and filled it with photo albums, books and pamphlets about the family home villages, the original family history scrapbook and correspondence.  All these materials are now available to my cousins and their children and grandchildren.

March 2006

Terry Smeck – Modesto CA

We are still enjoying the RV lifestyle.  Will be in Oregon, on the Rogue River, at Four Seasons RV Resort most of the summer.  I had a full knee replacement Dec. ’05 and it is almost 100% on April 1st.  I enjoyed visiting with Tom Montague and Ted Cook and look forward to more reunions in the future.  I always look forward to receiving the Alumni newsletters.  We gave up on sailing due to bad knees.  Broke my heart to sell our beautiful 42’ Catalina.  Nancy and I passed our 51st anniversary March 5th and are great-grandparents twice.
